There are several photographers I follow online who photograph older, sometimes dilapidated buildings, primarily in Japan. These photographs usually depict buildings in a state of failure or repair, yet they still exhibit a sense of beauty and character. The buildings are largely small residential buildings, storefronts, or both. I love sketching these buildings in a loose style, which I believe brings out their quirky presentation to the world.
